PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Police say a wild pursuit that began in Portsmouth, went through the Midtown Tunnel and ended in Norfolk stemmed from a drug investigation.

According to Jan Westerbeck with the Portsmouth Police Department, the pursuit started in the 2700 block of High Street after police tried to pull over a driver just before 7 p.m. The driver kept going, and police chased the vehicle through the Midtown Tunnel into Norfolk. The chase ended near the intersection of Redgate Avenue and Hampton Boulevard where one person was taken into custody.

Westerbeck says the arrest was drug related. The incident is still under investigation.
