Burglary suspect busted in NN home

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Newport News Police say a burglary suspect was caught in the act, thanks to alert neighbors.

Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department told WAVY.com officers arrested Jonathan Christopher Ince, 29, of Newport News early Tuesday morning.

Officers received a call for a possible burglary in progress around 6 a.m. in the 100 block of Sun Haven Court. When they arrived, they found a glass door broken and lights on inside the home.

According to Thurston, the officers saw movement inside the home, the lights went out, and a male suspect, identified as Ince, was seen leaving through a back door. Officers were able to detain him after a short chase, Thurston added.

“The suspect was found to be in possession of property that had been reportedly stolen in a larceny from vehicle reported to have occurred between Dec. 3 and Dec. 5, 2012 at the same location,” Thurston said.

Ince has been charged with burglary, grand larceny, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools and misdemeanor damage to property.

“This is an excellent example of an alert neighbor calling police to report what seemed to be suspicious activity leading to the quick apprehension of a burglary suspect.”
