NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Two brothers could face life in prison for going on a robbery spree of convenience stores and fast food restaurants during summer 2011.
According to Peter Carr with the U.S. Attorney's Office, Laquan Draper, 21, and Angelo Draper, 20, of Portsmouth were convicted Wednesday on several robbery charges by a federal grand jury.
Carr said the two men were convicted of conspiracy to commit robbery, 12 counts of commercial robbery and discharging a firearm during a robbery. Laquan Draper was also convicted of a robbery of a Norfolk ABC store on Little Creek Road and possession of a firearm by a felon.
The brothers were found not guilty on four charges.
The two men went on an eight-week robbing spree starting in July 2011 spanning the area between Roanoke and Norfolk. The Draper brothers would enter stores with shirts tied around their faces, carrying firearms or replica firearms, jump over counters and steal money.
They were also convicted of conspiring to rob 20 restaurants and convenience stores.
Laquan and Angelo Draper were arrested following a high-speed chase in August 2011 in Chesapeake. Carr said the two brothers crashed a stolen car into a Chesapeake police vehicle.
The men face a minimum of 10 years in prison each up to life in prison when they are sentenced in May 2013.
