HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Hampton Police have arrested a man they say shot and killed another man close to his home along Bethel Avenue Sunday night.

Cpl. Mary Shackelford with the Hampton Police Division said officers were called to the 1100 block of Bethel Avenue just before 11:15 p.m. for a report of shots fired. Jaime Michael Combs was found lying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Further investigation revealed Combs and 34-year-old James Jackson, Jr. were involved in an altercation that escalated to Jackson shooting Combs multiple times, Shackelford said. Jackson was arrested and charged with murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Additionally, Jackson was served with outstanding warrants for charges of probation violation and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
