ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, Va. (AP) - An Isle of Wight judge has ordered a psychological evaluation to determine whether a man accused of killing his father and stepmother is competent to stand trial.
Media outlets report that Circuit Court Judge Carl Eason Jr. granted a defense motion seeking the evaluation on Wednesday.
Joseph Charles "Jay" Joyner Jr. is accused of killing 62-year-old Joe Joyner Sr. and 58-year-old Sandra Joyner. His next court hearing is set for Feb. 13.
Police found the stepmother's body on April 26 inside the couple's home in Carrsville. The father's body was found the next day in woods near the couple's farm.
An autopsy showed that Sandra Joyner died from blunt force trauma to the head. Joe Joyner Sr. died from a gunshot wound to the head.
