SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - Officials say a 911 phone call during a larceny landed four men and one juvenile in prison.

According to Gene Drewey with the Southampton Sheriff's Office, a complainant called 911 just after noon Monday, saying he was watching five people steal farming equipment from a lot near General Thomas Highway and Sunbean Road.

The 911 operator was able to keep the caller on the line while deputies were dispatched to the area. Although the men left the scene with the stolen farming equipment, police were able to pull the suspects over on Delaware Road just south of General Thomas Highway.

Drewey says the owner of the stolen equipment was notified and identified the stolen items as his.

Julian Perry, 44, Thomas Perry, 21, Paul Day, 46, Melvin Day, 48 and one 15-year-old juvenile were arrested for grand larceny.

In addition, Julian and Thomas  Perry were charged with possession of marijuana.

Melvin Day had an outstanding warrant for possession of dangerous drugs. The Perrys and Paul Day are behind bars with a $5,000 bond and Melvin Day is imprisoned without bond. The juvenile was released to a parent.
