PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Police say three men have been arrested for ransacking a Portsmouth art gallery and stealing two bronze sculptures, valued at $350,000.
According to Jan Clark with the Portsmouth Police Department, officers were notified of a burglary at the Cliff Page Art Studio on Primrose Street Nov. 28, 2012. The owner of the studio was out of town and had left a family in charge of securing the business.
Clark said suspects entered through the studio's front door, ransacked the main area and broke several pieces of art. Two large bronze sculptures valued at $350,000 were stolen from the business.
Additionally, the suspects stole bronze, copper and nickel from the art studio.
An employee of a recycling business contacted police that someone left one of those bronze statutes at his workplace. The second bronze sculpture and most of the bronze, copper and nickel have not been located.
Clark said Macarthur Kit, 61, Calvin Vann, 33, and Willie Riddick, 48, all of Portsmouth were arrested on charges of burglary, grand larceny and obtaining money by false pretenses.
Riddick is wanted for failing to appear on the burglary charge.
