SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Officials say a 12-year-old child has been suspended from school and could face expulsion for bringing a large knife to school Monday.
According to Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk, the student had a 14-inch knife in his backpack when he boarded a school bus to Kings Fork Middle School. Klink says one student told the bus driver about the knife, who in turn contacted the school's assistant principals.
Klink says the school's principal retrieved the knife from the student and no one was injured during the incident.
During questioning, the 12-year-old admitted he was being bullied by a classmate and brought the weapon for protection.
The child, a sixth-grader, has been recommended for expulsion following the school's weapons policy, according to Bethanne Bradshaw with Suffolk Public Schools.
