PORTSMOUTH, Va. - A local plant will shut down leaving around 100 people without a job.

On Monday, Dean Foods announced the closing its PET Dairy facility on Turnpike Road in Portmsouth. The plant produces different types of milk and flavored drinks.

The company says it plans to move the plant's production to other facilities to improve efficiency and customer service. Production is scheduled to phase out over the next 60 days and will stop during the second week of August.

The original plant was built in 1939 with an addition built in 2000. PET Dairy became part of the Dairy Group under Dean Foods in December 2001 when Suiza Foods merged with Dean Foods Company
