ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. - "My name is Ricky Braddy and I'm 26 years old from Elizabeth City, North Carolina."
With that, the American Idol viewing party at Montero's Restaurant in Elizabeth City came alive.
Ricky Braddy briefly worked at the restaurant before heading back to Hollywood to sing live for a national television audience.
Even the drink menu was altered, reflecting the life-altering position Braddy is in. Cocktails now include the "Ricky Tini" and "Braddy Punch."
As Braddy sang "A Song for You," fans and friends cheered, prayed and applauded. His fans and friends in Elizabeth City say the young Braddy's talent will move him to the next round.
Friend, James Ethan Clark told WAVY.com, "He couldn't have chosen a better song. He sings that song so well and effortlessly."
Restaurant owner and Braddy's former boss, Andy Montero said, "I think Elizabeth City is going to rally behind him. I think America is going to rally behind him. First opportunity for him to sing on TV. I think he did a great job showing his ability."
But Elizabeth City's confidence will not be enough to secure Braddy's place in the top three.
After he did his job on stage in California, the hometown crowd got to work on their cell phones preparing to send countless text messages.
The nation will find out Wednesday night, whether Braddy got
enough votes.
