HAMPTON, Va. - Dozens of victims need a new place to stay after Wednesday's apartment fire in Hampton. it won't be an easy task, especially with the holidays right around the corner. Many will have to call a hotel room "home" for now.

"I just have to start back Monday and I don't know where I'm going to go," said Stephen Brown.

Brown has no idea what the future is going to bring.

"I had to go buy clothes today," said Brown. "I was planning on going to the Redskins game. My brother got me tickets. I think that will really help me."

The game will relieve him a little, but after that, it's back to dealing with the reality of his situation.

Brown was like many Tradewinds residents Wednesday night, getting ready for bed, unaware flames would quickly destroy their home.

"I was watching a movie," said Brown. "I heard some screaming. Help me. Help me. Help me."

Brown realized his place was on fire. He says he's thankful to be alive.

"The steps on the top were falling down on us as we were going out," added Brown. "If I would have waited another second to go, I wouldn't have made it out."

Brown says he lost everything he owns. He like many are now forced to start their lives over.

We're told many of families have small children. The Holiday Inn in Hampton has ten rooms available for the victims.
