CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Chesapeake police say they've arrested the driver accused of hitting and killing a bicyclist Tuesday night in the 900 block of Johnstown Road.

Police say Sarah Magnolia Perry, 21, of Chesapeake was driving under the influence when she hit and killed 46-year-old Charles Francis McCarty, Jr.

Perry bonded out of jail Thursday morning. Her next court date is scheduled for December 7.

According to police, Perry fled the scene after hitting McCarty who was bicycling down Johnstown Road at around 10:30 p.m. McCarty was pronounced dead on the scene.

A short while after fleeing the scene, Perry, who was driving a 1997 Oldsmobile, returned to the scene of the accident.

Perry has since been charged with Driving Under the Influence. Additional charges are possible.
