Metro officials say a track repairman has been struck and killed by a piece of track equipment near Vienna.

The repairman was one of 10 to 15 people on a crew working halfway between the Dunn Loring-Merrifield and Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail stations when he was hit by a piece of track equipment around 9:50 p.m. Sunday.

Metro halted service between West Falls Church-VT/UVA and the Vienna stations.

Officials say the employee had worked at Metro for about 25 years and his identity will be released after his next of kin have been notified.
