Norfolk State loses to Delaware St.

Delaware State beats Norfolk State 54-52

NORFOLK (AP) -- Marcus Neal scored 16 points to lead Delaware State to a 54-52 win over Norfolk State on Monday night.

Jay Threatt added 13 points, six assists and four steals for the Hornets (12-9, 7-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).

Delaware State trailed 26-23 at halftime, but used a 12-0 run in the second half to take a 38-29 lead with 7:52 remaining. During the run, Norfolk State was held scoreless for almost 12 minutes.

The Spartans bounced back, and a jumper from Michael Deloach cut the Bears' lead to 52-50 with 12 seconds left. Threatt was then sent to the free-throw line and made one of two, but grabbed his own offensive rebound. He was fouled and made one of two again to give Mercer a 54-50 lead. Kyle O'Quinn's layup at the buzzer made up the final score.

Deloach scored 18 for Norfolk State (5-17, 4-6), while O'Quinn added 12 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.

Hampton beats Winston-Salem 55-53

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) -- Vincent Simpson knocked down a 3-pointer with 13 seconds left, lifting Hampton to a 55-53 win over Winston-Salem State on Monday night.

Simpson, who finished with 12 points, scored seven of those in a row in the game's final 1:35 for the Pirates.

Brian Fisher's layup with 1:53 left put the Rams up 50-48, but Simpson took over from there. He hit two free throws, dropped in a layup and then finished the Rams off with his final 3-pointer.

Andrew Jackson missed a late 3 for a chance to tie for the Rams.

Charles Funches also scored 12 points as the only other player in double figures for the Pirates (8-15), who have alternated wins and losses since taking back to back games in early January.

Fisher was the lone player in double figures for the Rams (9-13), scoring 11. The Rams missed a chance to extend their winning streak to a season-best three games.
