Virginia Beach - If you want to raise a little money on a hot day, you wash some cars. If you want to be part of a unique brotherhood of vehicle owners, drive a Jeep.
"You'll see us waving at each other as we're driving by."
So all NO BS Just Jeeps club members had to hear was
Chesapeake Police officer Sean Fleming's story. They didn't know
him but they shared one thing in common.
"We saw that it was a fellow Jeeper and we wanted to raise some
money to help him replace his car."
Officer Fleming was on his way home June 1st when he rushed
to help his fellow officers. He got involved in a shoot out with a
suspect on the Route 17, I-64 overpass. Fleming's Jeep stood
between him and an AK-47.
"The guy puts himself on the line for the community everyday and his car got completely destroyed and we've seen the pictures where the bullets have gone completely through his car and its unrepairable," says club co-owner Rob Nicolodi.
A line of vehicles snaked through the Sears parking lot on this hot sunny Saturday. You didn't need a Jeep to get a wash.
"Portsmouth helps Chesapeake and Chesapeake helps Portsmouth so
its the right thing to do," says LT Scott Burke with the Portsmouth
Police Department. He brought his truck.
A white bandage on his arm, Sean Fleming came too. He's can't
talk about what happened but his parents say his survival is a
miracle.
"He's healing up nicely right now it's just that he's trying to
heal from five gunshot wounds. It's a slow, slow task," says Steve
Fleming.
With a family of Jeep owners behind him, Sean's road to
recovery is sure to be smooth.
"You don't realize how much people care until you need it, " says Steve.
All the proceeds will go to Sean Fleming. If you'd like to donate, you can mail your donation to the Chesapeake Coalition of Police P.O. Box 1775 Chesapeake VA 23327.
