VIRGINIA BEACH, Va - The Virginia Association of Broadcasters honored WAVY-TV with three awards at its annual banquet Friday, June 26.
WAVY won for Best Human Interest for 'Flashes of Hope', done by anchor Tom Schaad and photojournalist Andy Miller.
WAVY's sports department won Outstanding Sports, which honored sports director Bruce Rader, anchor Chris Reckling, anchor Ahmed Fareed and sports producer Brian Parsons.
WVBT promotions producer Mike Booth won for best promotion/contest for FOX43 programs.
WAVY received a runner-up award for best feature report: 'Tricare Wheelchair', by reporter Melanie Woodrow.
WVBT received a runner-up award for best News Series: 'Deportation Dilemma', by reporter Mary Kay Mallonee and producer Kelly Welsh.
WAVY TV and WVBT President and General Manager Doug Davis is the new VAB President-elect.
