ELIZABETH CITY, NC - The Elizabeth City Police Department conducted "Operation Spring Bling," in response to drug trafficking and gang activity in the city.
The operation netted 33 arrests and a total of 80 narcotics violations. During the operation search warrants were executed on homes in several areas of the city. Police say they also seized a significant amount crack cocaine, marijuana and stolen guns.
The Elizabeth City Police Department was not the only force working to bring down drug activity in the city. The Paquotank County Sheriff's Office, the Edenton Police Department, the Camden County Sheriff's Office, the Chowan County Sheriff's Office, the Perquimans County Sheriff's Office and others participated in the operation.
Sgt. Gary Bray led the operation.
"People are tired of gang activity and drug dealing and we take those complaints seriously and do everything we can to address those complaints," said Sgt. Bray.
Police say they spent the last three months doing undercover drug buys and surveillance on suspected gang members leading up to Friday morning's operation.
