NORFOLK - Norfolk police have arrested a 17-year-old in the homicide of a Maury High School Student.

Police say the teen shot and killed 18-year-old Charles Humphrey early Sunday morning, in the Park Place neighborhood - a promising life snuffed out at the corner of 34th Street and Colonial Avenue.

Police arrested the teen accused of killing Humphrey in the 2800 block of Tait Terrace. Police will not release his name because he's a minor, nor will they say if he's a Maury High student.

WAVY.com went to the home where the 17-year-old has been seen and confronted a woman who answered the door; she had no comment.

Ninth grader Derek Sumler lives nearby. He knows nothing of the arrest or who it is, but says since the killing, Maury hasn't been the same.

"It's not as loud as it used to be. Everybody's quiet. Crying. Sad. No one can believe it."

Maury sophomore, Rashad Taylor is happy an arrest has been made, but can't make any sense of the senselessness, "It's terrible. I don't know why he would want to kill him, it's crazy."

The 17-year-old arrested for murder is now in custody. Norfolk police say another arrest may be a possibility.
