Cab driver found dead

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Police have released the identity of a cab driver found shot to death in Newport News late Sunday night. 32-year-old Mohammed (Mike) Laktami, a Moroccan native, was fatally shot in his cab.

Investigators say Laktami had picked up a fare at 18th Street and was enroute to 28th Street when the shooting occurred.

Just before 10:30 p.m. Newport News police responded to 20th Street and Marshall Avenue and arrived to find the cab driver slumped over the wheel. Police say Laktami died of a single gunshot wound to his head.

Mr. Laktami had been in the U.S. for two years and worked for North End taxi for about two months. He lived in Newport News.

No word on any suspects or motive.
