VIRGINIA BEACH, VA - The DUI case against Virginia Beach Police Officer Brian Womble has been continued to September 21.   Womble, who arrested former NFL star Bruce Smith for driving drunk, was in court facing his own DUI charge Monday.

Womble's defense attorney, Larry Slipow, told WAVY.com one of the prosecution's witnesses has just provided some additional information so Slipow said he needed more time to review the case.  Slipow said there has been a change in the witness' original story.

Chesapeake Commonwealth's Attorney Nancy Parr said there has been no change in the witness' story.  Her office is providing a special prosecutor for the case in Virginia Beach.  Parr told WAVY.com the prosecution witness has provided some additional information, but the story itself has not changed.

Womble was arrested one month after he arrested Norfolk native and future NFL Hall-of-Fame inductee Bruce Smith in May.

Womble testified against Smith July 9, helping prosecutors secure a conviction.

Womble is a decorated officer and well known for making frequent arrests on drunk driving charges.
