Southeast Community Weed & Seed Project

NEWSPORT NEWS, Va. - With a little over two weeks to go before the start of school, more than 100 volunteers, along with nearly 400 Christopher Newport University students and staff will team up to work with schools, non-profit agencies and churches to get schools ready for students.

On Thursday, the volunteers will also help to clean up public areas and assist the elderly in maintaining their yards.

The Southeast Communtiy Weed & Seed project regularly brings area residents and agencies together to increase the neighborhood's ability to work together and cope with community issues.

Among the list of areas to be spruced up include:

  • Achievable Dream Elementary
  • Boys & Girls Club
  • Pearl Bailey Library
  • Doris Miller Community Center
  • James A. Fields House
  • Gospel Light Cares, Inc.
  • Huntington Middle
  • Magruder Elementary
  • Moton Community House
  • Newsome House
  • Newsome Park Elementary
  • C. Waldo Scott Center
  • YWCA

The Southeast Community Weed & Seed Project regularly brings area residents and agencies together to increase the neighborhoods ability to work together and cope with community issues.
