NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - The crew of guided-missile destroyer USS Bainbridge has been recognized with the Arleigh Burke Fleet award.

Navy officials say the crew received the award during an onboard ceremony at Naval Station Norfolk on Tuesday.

Adm. William Gortney, commander of the U.S. Fleet Forces Command, presented the award. It is named after the Navy destroyer squadron combat commander and chief of naval operations from 1955 to 1961.

Officials say the award is given annually to the most improved battle-efficient ship or aircraft squadron from both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleet.
