USS Vella Gulf returns to Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Guided-missile cruiser USS Vella Gulf returned to Naval Station Norfolk on August 11 following a 7-month deployment.

USS Vella's (CG 72) 320 sailors and 40 officers were deployed Jan. 3 to assist in ballistic missile defense and maritime security in the Mediterranean and Black seas.

According to James DaAngio with the Coast Guard,  USS Vella's crew assisted in training and exercises with allies including France, Greence, Israel, Italy, Romania, Turkey and Ukraine.
