NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Guided-missile destroyer USS McFaul (DDG 74) is departing Naval Station Norfolk Sunday.
Originally, the ship was supposed to deploy Friday, but was moved back because of weather.
The ship's crew, led by Cmdr. Daniel J. Gillen, is leaving for the U.S. Fifth Fleet area of responsibility to participate in anti-piracy operations.
“I have a great crew and a great ship” praised Gillen. “We are ready and looking forward to this deployment."
USS McFaul is the Navy's 24th Arleigh Burke-class destroyer and was named after SEAL Team 4 hero Chief Petty Officer Donald L. McFaul.
