EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - The Navy says the USS Abraham Lincoln will depart Everett next Thursday, and when it returns from a deployment in the Middle East next year it will head for a new homeport at Newport News, Va.

The Lincoln has been based at Everett since 1997. It will be replaced in January by the USS Nimitz, which has been undergoing maintenance at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton.

The Daily Herald reports Naval Station Everett is the second-largest employer in Snohomish County, after Boeing, with an annual payroll of more than $230 million.
