NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - USS Laboon will return to Norfolk Monday after a historical deployment with one of the most advanced weapons systems in the Navy.
USS Laboon, equipped with 35 officers and 240 sailors, left Norfolk on July 11. The crew supported Ballistic Missile Defense Operations and provide maritime security in the Sixth Fleet Area of Operations.
"The crew performed exceptionally well in multiple mission areas, both at sea and ashore," Cmdr. Chris Cigna said. "These dedicated men and women routinely answered the call without fail and remained ready on-station for month-long periods, protecting our allies and interests in the region. It's been my great honor to serve with each one of Laboon's extraordinary Sailors."
During the deployment, Laboon had 83 sailors who received enlisted surface warfare qualifications. 40 sailors also re-enlisted.
