NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Future combat ship USS Fort Worth stopped in Norfolk Friday on its way to Galveston, Texas for a commissioning ceremony.

According to Lolita Lewis with Navy, USS Fort Worth will be commissioned Sept. 22 and then home-ported to San Diego.

The ship was constructed in Marinette, Wisconsin and will be manned by two rotational crews of up to 75 sailors.

Lews says the ship is tailored to focus on three mission areas: mine countermeasures, surface warfare and anti-submarine warfare.
