NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - USS Eisenhower returned to Naval Station Norfolk Wednesday afternoon.

The ship returned after six months of operations. Sailors returned three months early, but will deploy again in February for additional operations.

"During this short period at home, we'll get some critical maintenance done on the Eisenhower and on our airplanes and most importantly we'll get a lot of rest for our sailors," Commanding Officer Michael Manazir said.

Julia Marron's 21-year-old son was abroad the Eisenhower.

"He said he's going to look at it as the 'glass is half full,' you know, that he gets to take a break right in the middle and have Christmas with his family which we appreciate," Marron said.

USS Hue City will also return home to Mayport, Fla. Wednesday, while USS Jason Dunham, USS Farragut and USS Winston S. Churchill remain on station. The three ships will return home in March.
