VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - The first Joint High-Speed Vessel has arrived at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Forty Story.
The USNS Spearhead is a smaller ship designed for rapid transport of troops and military equipment. According to the U.S. Navy, the Spearhead is capable of transporting 600 tons of troops, vehicles, supplies and equipment.
A crew of 22 helps operate and navigate it.
The U.S. Navy plans to eventually operate 10 Joint High-Speed Vessels around the world.
