Suit filed for mold in military housing

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Another mold-related lawsuit has been filed against the company that manages rental housing for military families in Hampton Roads.

Natasha Chaparro and her husband, Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Angel Manuel Chaparro-Mendoza, claim in their lawsuit that mold in their townhouse near Norfolk Naval Station sickened their family.

The lawsuit seeks $3.7 million in damages from Lincoln Military Housing.

An attorney for Lincoln, Connie Bertram, tells media outlets that a minimal amount of mold was found in the family's residence. She says the company addressed the mold immediately.

Bertram says Lincoln will defend itself against the lawsuit.

It's the second federal lawsuit filed over alleged mold problems in military housing managed by Lincoln. At least five other cases are pending in state court.
