NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Naval Station Norfolk began testing a pilot program for identity card scanning starting Monday, with no significant traffic delays in the process.
Gate personnel will be scanning identity cards for every entrant at Naval Station Norfolk through Oct. 31, but the decision whether or not to allow someone in will not be dependent upon the ID. The process was said to take an extra two to eight seconds and delays at gates were expected.
Monday, no significant delays were reported following the first day.
Security personnel will continue using current procedures when scanning cards.
