SECNAV recognizes USS Bataan

USS BATAAN (WAVY) - USS Bataan (LHD 5) won the large ship category for the 2011 Secretary of the Navy Energy and Water Management Awards.

According to the Secretary of the Navy's requirements, the ship and its crew demonstrated an "oustanding energy program" and had "an exceptional year for energy project execution."

Eight awards were given total, and USS Bataan received $30,000 to be used at the discretion of the commanding officer for energy improvements, as well as the honor of flying the SECNAV energy flag for one year.

Bataan is part of the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group and currently supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
