VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A Virginia Beach-based Navy SEAL has been identified as the author of a tell-all book about the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.
According to the Associated Press, Matt Bissonnette is from Virginia Beach and retired from the Navy last summer. He was first identified by Fox News.
WAVY.com stopped by Bissonnette's home in Virginia Beach and was told by homeowners and neighbors the Bissonnettes moved two or three months ago. They posted a sign outside of the home reading:
"We do not know where the previous owner moved to. Please do not knock on the door. We are new owners. Thank you."
One current and one former U.S. military official confirmed the name, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss military personnel matters.
A spokesperson for a SEAL team told WAVY.com there could be federal charges if classified information is included in the book. The spokesperson says the fact that the SEAL retired does not change his obligation to keep military information confidential.
"No Easy Day" has a release date of Sept. 11 and is written under the pseudonym Mark Owen.
