Sailor ID'd in deadly Carter Hall fall

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A Sailor assigned to USS Carter Hall died after a fall in the ship’s well deck off the coast of North Carolina during a training exercise. 

According to the U.S. Navy, the Sailor was evacuated via Navy helicopter to Pitt Memorial Trauma Center in Greenville, N.C. after lifesaving efforts from emergency crews on board. He was pronounced dead.

He has been identified as Darian A. Drouin, 19, of San Diego, Calif.

At this time, an investigation is ongoing.

USS Carter Hall is conducting operations as part of USS Bataan Amphibious Ready Group training.
