CARIBBEAN SEA (WAVY) - The USS Elrod rescued four people from a sinking boat on June 26 while sailing in the Caribbean Sea.
The ship's crew received a call after a maritime patrol aircraft spotted the submerged vessel. When they arrived at the scene, they found four survivors clinging to the bow of the sinking boat. The survivors were later flown to a hospital in Colombia.
"We came at the right time," Commander Jack Killman said. "I am not sure these people would have lasted much longer."
