PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - According to the Department of Defense, a North Carolina native has been killed in Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Rayvon Battle, Jr., 25, died Nov. 13 in Kandahar. Battle, of Rocky Mount, was assigned to the 38th Engineer Company, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington.
