NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - NATO's only North American command has a new leader.
French Air Force General Jean-Paul PalomTros took the reins of Allied Command Transformation on Friday.
NATO'S Allied Command Transformation in Norfolk is responsible for training member nations and helps define what future military operations for the alliance will look like, among other things. There are about 600 military and civilian employees attached to NATO ACT in Norfolk. The command also has facilities in Portugal, Italy, Norway and Poland.
Palomeros is only the second non-American to hold the post. He took over from French Air Force General Stephane Abrial. Both Abrial and Palomeros were formerly the chief of staff for the French Air Force. Abrial will retire from the military in the fall.
