HAMPTON, Va. - The Fort Monroe Federal Area Development Authority held a Town
Hall Meeting Thursday to hear the public's ideas for the future of
the early 19th century fortress.
In 2005, the Base Realignment and Closing commission
identified the base for closure. The Army is scheduled to
officially close the facility in September 2011.
There has been a great deal of interest in the property and
the development authority wanted public input as they work on an
Interpretive Master Plan (IMP) to ensure visitor and educational
services will tell the stories the public most wants to experience
at the historic site.
More information on the current
Fort Monroe
Reuse Plan, adopted in August, 2008, is available here.
