VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - The sound of freedom is getting louder in Virginia Beach. The Navy confirms there is increased flight activity at Naval Air Station Oceana.
According to spokeswoman Kelley Stirling, the heavier than normal day and night flight operations will continue through the weekend.
Stirling explained that the increase in flight operations is to support future deployments and training.
Field Carrier Landing Practices (FCLP) will be conducted at Oceana each day until 10 p.m.
Normally, these practices would be conducted at Naval Auxiliary Landing Field Fentress, but the runway there is closed while it undergoes repairs. The work at Fentress is scheduled to be complete by Oct. 15.
