NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Families of crews abroad three ships re-routing to Israel are preparing for a delayed homecoming.

It was announced Monday that the USS New York, USS Iwo Jima and USS Gunston Hall were bound for Israel to provide assistance to Americans, if need be. The ships carry more than 4,000 sailors and Marines.

The crews delayed eight months ago.

"We were looking forward to having our first Christmas together," said Andrea.

Jeanette says she has learned to roll with the punches.

"This is kind of what goes with the territory and it's an unfortunate part of it sometimes," she said.
