Employees help refurbish rooms for vets

There are more than 2,000 homeless veterans in Hampton Roads, but some Virginia Beach residents are fighting back against that trend.

Home Depot employees from around Hampton Roads are pitching in to renovate homes that house local veterans who are for now homeless.

As the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq dwindle down, a number of returning veterans will join the ranks of the homeless.

"Some of them probably get discharged with no prior planning and they are looking for a place to reside," Willard Smith with VETHOUSE said.

VETHOUSE provides rooms to veterans in need. The veterans pay rent but it is not enough to cover the costs of maintaining the homes they stay in, so many Home Depot managers are offering a helping hand.
