PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - The Coast Guard rescued a man and his dog from a disabled sailboat near Hampton.
The sailboat was adrift and dragging its anchor in the northwest branch of the Back River. The Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads was notified of the disabled sailboat at 10:15 p.m. Monday but couldn't get to it right away because of poor weather conditions.
Watchstanders dispatched a crew aboard a 45-foot response boat from Coast Guard Station Cape Charles and the Poquoson Fire Department aboard a fire boat also assisted.
A Coast Guard crew reached the 41-foot sailboat at approximately 2 a.m. the following morning, and rescued the man and his dog, according to a Coast Guard news release. They were taken to the Langley Air Force Base marina.
There are no reports of injuries.
