CNIC names Sailor of the Year

Portsmouth native receives honor

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) named a Portsmouth native Sailor of the Year in a ceremony Jan. 26. 

Religious Program Specialist First Class Gary G. Denette II is the leading petty officer at the Naval Station Norfolk Chapel.

"RP1 Denette is a tremendous sailor and everyone here at Naval Station is extremely proud of his accomplishments," said Capt. Mary Jackson, commanding officer, Naval Station Norfolk. "This award is indicative of the hard work and dedication, RP1 Denette provides to our Sailors and their families every day."

Denette, who is a graduate of Churchland High School, also was named Naval Station Norfolk's Sailor of the Year and won Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Sailor of the Year.

Next, Denette will compete for Vice Chief of Naval Operations Shore Activities Sailor of the Year.
