NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Naval Station Norfolk and Naval Support Activity Norfolk participated in Virginia's statewide tornado exercise Tuesday morning.
Officials say "Take Cover" sirens sounded over the base loud speaker system at approximately 9:45 a.m. At approximately 10 a.m., the "All Clear" siren was sounded.
Gov. Bob McDonnell has proclaimed March 16th Tornado Preparedness Day in Virgnia.
As part of the day's activities, the Virginia Department of Emergency management will coordinate a statewide test tornado drill utilizing Emergency Alert Systems and NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts at 9:45 a.m.
