JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. (WAVY) - About 20 Joint Base Langley-Eustis soldiers from the 70th Movement Control Team, 53rd Transportation Battalion, 7th Sustainment Brigade left Thursday on a 12-month deployment to Afghanistan.
During its deployment, the Army says the 70th MCT will coordinate and supervise transportation support of units and cargo through aerial ports of embarkation.
The soldiers in 70th MCT returned last year from a 15-month deployment. Sergeant Jonathan Martinez says that is a long time to be away from his growing family.
"The year passed and he's going again," said Martinez' wife. "We're expecting another one and he's not going to be there but probably, hopefully, he'll be back to see the baby grow."
"My wife always makes sure that my daughter recognizes me," added Martinez. "She takes pictures of me and always makes sure that dad is known at home."
The soldiers left following a morning ceremony at Anderson Field House.
