NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Virginia 2nd District Congressman Glenn Nye announced the formation of the Hampton Roads Military Affairs Commission during a press conference Thursday at Nauticus.

According to Nye, the Commission will provide independent policy advice on military issues affecting Hampton Roads, including the ongoing debate over East Coast homeports for nuclear aircraft carriers.

"The bottom line here is we're trying to bring together all the great expertise we have on military issues right here in Hampton Roads to help us make strong recommendations based on good experience and sound advice," Nye said.

Nye will act as Chair of the group, but any reports, advice, or policy recommendations will be independently produced by the Commission - which includes Governor Kaine, local officials, business leaders, and retired military officers.
