NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Norfolk is preparing to take ownership of the retired World War-II era battleship USS Wisconsin.
Mayor Paul Fraim's office says the transfer of ownership is set for 10 a.m. Friday. The ceremony comes on the 66th anniversary of the Wisconsin's commissioning at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard.
The Navy agreed in December to give the Wisconsin to Norfolk after years of negotiations and environmental reviews. City officials plan to maintain the battleship and operate it as a tourist attraction.
The city plans to begin offering guided tours of interior sections this summer.
