CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. (AP) - Eight U.S. Coast Guard members stationed in Chincoteague are facing administrative punishment following a drug investigation.
The members are connected with the Coast Guard's Sector Field Office, Aids to Navigation Team and Electronic Support Detachment on the barrier island.
Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Michael Patterson tells The Daily Times that the nonjudicial punishment could be anything from extra duties to a reduction in rank.
He says a tip from outside the Coast Guard prompted the investigation, which is continuing.
Patterson would not identify the drugs or say how many members had failed drug testing.
