VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Approximately 160 soldiers left Fort Story March 20 for a one-year deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The soldiers' primary responsibility, under the command of Capt. Felicia Sturgeon, is to provide logistical support to deployed officers.
"I'm not worried about anything. I'm just going to do my job," Sargeant Warren Salvodon said, "...do what they trained me to do."
Salvodon's mother, Marie, added, " I thank everyone for their prayers. It's hard to see him go, but I believe in God and I know he's going to be fine."
The soldiers are assigned to the 11th Transportation Battalion.
