PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - As kids get ready to go back to school, this is a great time to think about online safety.

Mark Wilson, Business Integration Manager from BayPort Credit Union joined us to talk about phishing scams.

Viruses are always a threat; hackers are always coming up with new ways to attack your PC. Make sure that your computers have up-to-date anti-virus programs running.

There are a variety of free programs as well as paid programs that work well. Some websites try to make you provide sensitive information.

Three parts that should make you think twice

  • Looks real
  • Threatening consequences
  • Asks for something important - login name, password, money

For more information on how to protect yourself and your investments online, stop by any of the 14 BayPort Credit Union locations across Hampton Roads.
